A New Grade 6 Class – The Village’s First

The Sama Boarding School has made some wonderful progress since it started operations in April 2010.
Due to the generosity of all our supporters, we have been able to furbish 7 classrooms with desks and chairs. This was unlike the initial phase when its students had to be contented in studying in the new classrooms, seated on the floor. Currently, the number of classrooms without furniture is reduced to 2.

Out of the approximately 80 students, 50 of them stay in the dormitories situated within the school. While some of these children who stay in the dormitories come from other nearby villages, most of them are locals, whose parents choose to put them in dormitories as the teachers and caretakers can better supervise their children in schoolwork. The dormitories consist of 2 big halls for boys and girls respectively and are fully furbish with beds.

The school has just received the Nepali government’s approval to start a new grade 6 (first year of secondary education in Nepal) class this year. This is the first time students can receive a secondary education in the village after their grade 5 (final year of primary education) without having to travel faraway to the capital city of Kathmandu.
Unfortunately, there exists a class system which is deep-rooted in the culture of the community. Previously, the children from the lower class will have no opportunity to go to school due to discrimination from the society. However, things have changed after a special classroom and a dedicated teacher is allocated for this unique group of students, as we believe all children have the equal right and opportunity to education.
After an annual on-site inspection last year, the Nepali government commented that the Sama Boarding School is the best school in our region. This is measured qualitatively based on the qualification of teachers, accommodation, food, the level of care to the students and trust by the parents. This affirms the government’s recognition in the school’s commitment in providing a quality education to its students, in order to better equip them with the knowledge and skills for their future.
